Trip to Kuala Mendalam

During the last school holidays, prefects of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sarawak had organized a trip to visit Kuala Mendalam Longhouse located in Miri, Sarawak. Miri is a beautiful and comfortable place for tourist from countryside to visit and see the interesting place in Malaysia which is located in Asia. Then, Kuala Mendalam longhouse is on one of the tourist favorite place and its people in Malaysia. The longhouse was living by orang asli.
The trip was participated by 15 students and 2 teachers including me. We went to Sarawak by MAS airplane. It was a big plane I have ever met in my life. My friend and my teachers departed from Kuala Lumpur international airport at nine o’clock in the morning and arrived at Miri international airport on twelve o’clock in the afternoon. It was very exciting flying on a plane with friends. Then, we drove to Kuala Mendalam longhouse by bus. On that journey, we spent quality time with jokes and enjoy a beautiful scene of Sarawak. The chief of the Longhouse,Rentap, 45, and the citizens of the longhouse welcome us warmly.
We were very impressed to see the longhouse with our naked eyes. There were many families lived in the longhouse. In the evening, we did a lot of activities together with the citizens in there. We were divided by our teachers into two teams, which was a group of boys and a group of girls. We, the boys were taught by one of the citizens named Sintok how to mend fishing nets. After a few minutes, he asked us to make our own fishing net together to be our souvenirs. On the other hand, they were asked to help the citizens filled the bamboo with glutinous rice. They were very clumsy filling the bamboo. All of us were very funny doing the activities.
At night, after evening prayer, we took dinner together with the citizens. The dishes were served on a small mat on the floor. We ate together and enjoyed the food. The food that we ate was very delicious and scrumptious and makes my teachers happy.
After dinner, the citizens which from different tribes performed their cultural dances to us. They wore beautiful costumes that cannot be found at any shop just in here we can found it. The song, were also very soft and touching our heart. We felt very happy. We laughed and clapped together.
After that dance, we left the longhouse for a hotel just a stone’s throw away from the longhouse. It was very memorable experience and interesting place that my teachers and friends ever had. I also take this chance to invite you to visit this place. The journey cost was cheap and affordable.
